I am creating a website for a client using the Monolit theme, the site in-progress can be seen here:
If the security login pops up, enter the following:
If you click on “Work” in the navigation (graffitosp.com/work) you’ll see this is the page I’ve created that I want to act as the main portfolio landing page. I have two questions:
1.) How can I edit the slug for “portfolio” to change it to be “work” and direct to the main “Work” landing page? For example, if I start going into the portfolio posts, the URL displays /portfolio/portfolio-post-title, like this: “http://graffitosp.wpengine.com/portfolio/mass-main/”. However, I want it to display as “http://graffitosp.wpengine.com/work/mass-main/”.
2.) Similarly, on individual portfolio posts, how can I edit the Portfolio Breadcrumb element to change the “Portfolio” link to read “Work” and go to the “Work” page? When I click to edit the breadcrumb element set up in any portfolio post, I’m unable to change any settings – the popup editing window just appears blank like the attached screenshot.
Any insight on how to make these changes would be very helpful, thank you!January 18, 2019 at 2:59 pm #29010
1,2 – You have to use translation plugin to change the texts. Watch this tutorial for more details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj3KKH8hL-Y&list=PL8lnIVh9k3PvoTOb02z55ZXeVr_-ueib2&index=7&t=17sJanuary 18, 2019 at 11:55 pm #29029
Thank you, I will try that solution!
One other question – I’ve set up portfolio posts using the boxed slider format (so there is an Owl slider in an inner row above the text content). On the Owl slider, is it possible to display image captions on each slide, preferably showing like the attached mockup I’ve created? I see that when the image opens in the zoom lightbox, there appears to be Alt text displaying at the bottom of the lightbox screen, but I’d prefer to have captions display on the front-end of the slides to be visible without having to click to go to the lightbox. Please let me know if there is some CSS or other coding that could be done to create this, thank you!January 19, 2019 at 3:38 am #29032
I’ve just tried to change the portfolio slug and breadcrumb via the tutorial instruction video, but it does not seem to work properly (also as a note, the video is showing an outdated version of the Loco Translate plugin).
After installing and activating the Loco Translate Plugin, I selected the plugin “Monolit Add Ons” to edit, create the new translation language as English, and then I do a search for “porftolio” as shown in the tutorial video, and I replace both the “portfolio” and “portfolio_cat” slug as seen in the attached screenshot with “work” and “work-cat” respectively. After I click save, then go to Settings > Permalinks and click “save” to update the permalink settings, it looks like what is the “Work” landing page URL remains the same (graffitosp.wpengine.com/work) as before which is correct, but the page is now displaying how “graffitosp.wpengine.com/portfolio” was displaying (the parallax layout, not the custom Work landing page I created).
When I click into individual portfolio posts, the URLs seem to have been updated correctly to “/work/post-title” (instead of “/portfolio/post-title”), but the actual text displayed in the breadcrumb is still reading “Portfolio” and I’d like it to read “Our Work”.
I’ve since deleted the translation settings so everything is back to the original state. Please advise specifically how I can change the slugs in both the URLs and text in the portfolio breadcrumbs, and have graffitosp.wpengine.com/work show the custom landing page I created and not the standard parallax portfolio page. 1 – You can try default slider element from WPBakery page builder ( which has more options)
2 – If your custom page has work in its url so please try with other text. About Portfolio text in breadcrumb, did you trying find and translate the text too?January 21, 2019 at 9:19 pm #29099
I’ve found where to successfully change the “Portfolio” text in the portfolio post breadcrumb to now read “Work”.
However I am still having trouble getting the actual URL slug “/portfolio” to successfully change to “/work” and direct appropriately to the custom Work page I’ve built, not the Portfolio parallax page. Whenever I update the sources “portfolio” and “portfolio_cat” to “work” and “work_cat” respectively in the Monolit Add-Ons section (under Plugins) in Loco Translate, and then update permalink settings, the URL structure changes correctly (so portfolio posts become “/work/post-title”) but graffitosp.wpengine.com/work opens the default Portfolio parallax page, not my custom page.
I’ve also tried changing these settings using the “About” page as a test (so changing the source “portfolio” and “portfolio_cat” to “about” and “about_cat” respectively); the same error occurs where the URL structure changes correctly to replace the slug “portfolio” with “about” (so portfolio posts become /about/post-title) but graffitosp.wpengine/about displays the Portfolio parallax page.
Please advise if I am incorrectly changing the settings or if there’s anything additional to do to solve this? Thank you!January 23, 2019 at 10:04 pm #29141
graffitosp.wpengine.com/portfoliois default portfolio archive page so you can’t use the link for your custom page. The custom page ( which was built with WPBakery portfolio grid element ) must have different url:
